Gwendolyn Hiapo
Gwendolyn Lois Hiapo, 93, of Hilo died on April 28, 2023 at her home in Keaukaha. She was born in Honokaa on April 22, 1930. She was a retired registered nurse at the former Hilo Hospital. A Graveside service will be held on Friday, at 12 noon June 2, 2023 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 (Pavilion) with burial to follow. She is survived by son Jon “Kalani” Hiapo of Kailua Kona; hanai daughter Bessie “Haunani” Kamakeaaina of Laie; hanai niece and caregiver PattiShawn N. Ahulau-Kahaloa of Keaukaha; numerous nephews and nieces. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary Inc.

Janet Tsuyuko Kina, 84, of Hilo, died April 30, 2023, at home. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker, former bookkeeper for THY &Associates Inc. and former member of Hilo Badminton Club and Hui Okinawa. Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts. She is survived by daughters, Allison Shiigi and Sandra (Jon) Cabanas of Hilo; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Emiko Kawata, 97, of Honolulu, passed away on April 12, 2023 in Honolulu.Born in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii, she was a retired presser for Young Hawaii, Iolani Sportswear. She is survived by sons, Erwin (Alison) and Kelvin; and daughter, Arlis Muraoka of Hilo. Visitation at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. James Hour
James Arthur Hour, 97, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii died May 4, 2023. Born in Quincy, Illinois on April 18, 1926, he was a commercial artist and owner of Jim’s Sign Shop in Calistoga, California. He is survived by his daughters, Marie of Missouri and Sharon DePauw of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date.
